Training & Consulting

Providing appropriate services to a diverse patient population requires both an informed staff and a committed health care organization. We have worked with HMOs, community clinics, health plans, hospitals and academic medical centers to provide a wide array of training programs and presentations. Our services include:

Training in Cultural Competency

We offer onsite and offsite continuing education programs and workshops.

  • Training of Trainers
Our workshops have prepared over 200 clinical educators and health professionals throughout the country to design and facilitate cultural competency training programs in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, psychology and allied health professions.
  • Integrating Cultural Competency into Quality Improvement Efforts
Our workshop "Addressing Health Care Disparities: Initiating Organizational Change," is designed to assist organizational leaders in integrating cultural competency principles into quality improvement efforts.
  • Tailored Workshops and Presentations
We develop cultural competency training programs tailored to needs of your organization. Such programs include introductory sessions for clinicians, training of trainers, and presentations to executive management teams.

Consulting & Technical Assistance

Our services can assist with developing strategic and action plans for integrating cultural competency practices into your organization. We can help your organization:

  • Comply with federal and state regulations for cultural and linguistically appropriate services
  • Address workforce recruitment and retention challenges
  • Develop training programs for clinical and non-clinical staff

Some Questions To Consider

Your responses to the following questions will allow us to better assist you:

  • What would you like to achieve as a result of cultural competency training or consulting?
  • Who is your audience for the training or presentation? (Clinicians? Support staff? Management or executive teams?)
  • What is your timeframe?

To request information for technical assistance or training, please contact Carol Allen.

Other Resources

The Network's 170-page curriculum, "Toward Culturally Competent Care: A Toolbox for Teaching Communication Strategies," teaches clinicians effective approaches to caring for diverse populations. It has been disseminated to nearly 1,500 academic institutions, hospital systems, community clinics and government agencies. It is now available in CD-ROM format.
