To bring together health care organizations and academic health centers to develop and disseminate knowledge and resources to improve the quality of medical practice through education. The Network: A Collaboration to Improve Medical Education and Health Care, formerly The California Managed Care Education and Research Network, was established in March 1998 out of the growing recognition that physicians-in-training and practice need new skills to effectively work in changing health care environments. We provide a setting for stakeholders from academic centers, health plans and community based practices throughout California to interact to define new knowledge, innovate, share perspectives and collaborate to improve contemporary practice skills. Our efforts span the continuum of professional education from undergraduate through continuing medical education. The Network is supported by a grant from the California HealthCare Foundation and administered by the Center for the Health Professions at the University of California San Francisco. The California HealthCare Foundation, based in Oakland, California, is a non-profit philanthropic organization whose mission is to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of the people of California.
