Nurse Workforce Initiative Evaluation

Announced by Governor Davis in January 2002, the Nurse Workforce Initiative (NWI) was a $34 million effort to increase the supply of nurses in California. The NWI included regional collaboratives to increase nurse supply, career ladder programs, and workplace reform pilot projects. The evaluation of the NWI is being conducted by researchers at UCSF and UCLA, using state, national, institutional, and individual data. In addition, qualitative research methods are being used to examine specific programs of the NWI.
